 SFX Makeup & Prosthetic Creations

Custom Effects, Crafted Thoughtfully

Our SFX work is fully custom and designed around each client’s character, concept, and comfort. Because special effects makeup involves a wide range of materials and techniques, clear communication and advance planning are essential to ensure both safety and quality.

Materials & Allergies

We work with a variety of professional SFX products, some of which may trigger allergies or sensitivities. For this reason, clients are required to disclose any known allergies or skin sensitivities before booking.

Common materials we use include:

  • Latex

  • Gelatin

  • Silicone

  • Professional-grade paints and adhesives

Some clients are allergic to latex, while others are not. If latex is not suitable, silicone alternatives are available. Silicone is:

  • Hypoallergenic for most people

  • More durable and skin-safe

  • Approximately 2–3 times more expensive than latex

The choice of material is always discussed with you beforehand and ultimately left up to the client, based on budget, comfort, and desired durability.

 Prosthetics & Effect Types

We create a wide range of SFX elements, including but not limited to:

  • Bald caps

  • Scars (small, large, healed, fresh, or traumatic)

  • Burns (varying degrees and textures)

  • Horns, ears, and fantasy prosthetics

  • Wounds, blood effects, and injury simulations

  • Character-based facial or body transformations

Many effects are combined with body painting and specialised SFX paints to enhance realism and storytelling.

No two prosthetics are the same. A small scar and a full burn effect are entirely different in time, materials, and complexity, which is why each project is priced individually.

Full Character Creation or Prosthetic-Only Options

Clients can choose between:

  • Prosthetic creation only (you receive the finished piece)

  • Full service, including design consultation, prosthetic creation, and on-the-day application

If you choose full character creation, we guide you through the entire process, from concept development to final application.

 Booking, Timing & Payments

Because prosthetics are custom-made:

  • A minimum of two weeks’ notice is required for all prosthetic work

  • Larger or more complex projects may require additional lead time

Before any molding, sculpting, or fabrication begins:

  • All prosthetic material costs must be paid upfront

  • This payment is separate from the makeup application fee

This allows us to source the correct materials, plan the build process, and dedicate the required time to your project.

 Pricing Transparency

There is no fixed price for prosthetics, as every design is unique. Pricing depends on:

  • Size and complexity of the effect

  • Materials used (latex vs silicone, etc.)

  • Time required for sculpting, molding, and fabrication

  • Whether application is included

We provide a pricing guide, but final costs are always tailored to the individual project.

 Important Notes

  • All SFX work is custom and non-refundable once fabrication has begun

  • Clear reference images and concept discussions help ensure the best outcome

  • Early communication allows for safer materials, better results, and smoother execution
